A Kyphoplasty Balloon Catheter System is a medical device used in a minimally invasive procedure called Balloon Kyphoplasty to treat certain types of spinal fractures, especially those caused by Osteoporosis. The Kyphoplasty Balloon Catheter System is designed to help stabilize a fractured vertebra (spinal bone), restore its height, and reduce pain. How it works A small incision is made in the patient’s back. A balloon catheter is inserted into the fractured vertebra through a hollow needle. The balloon is carefully inflated, which can: create a cavity inside the bone help restore the collapsed vertebra’s height. The balloon is then removed. The cavity is filled with bone cement (usually polymethyl methacrylate), which hardens quickly and stabilizes the bone.
